Check For Updates

By Default, Do-more Designer is configured to check for updates to the programming software (containing bug fixes, new features, updated help content, updated Start Page content), and new firmware for Do-more CPUs, Remote I/O controllers, and CTRIO modules. Check for Updates requires a functional Internet connection to perform the check and to download the updates. If updates exist for any of the products the user will be notified through this dialog:

The Check for Updates operation is performed automatically each time Do-more Designer is started. This automatic check can be disabled in the Start Page section of the Global tab on the View -> Options dialog. The Check can also be run manually at any time through the Help-> Check for Updates... menu selection.

Do-more Designer Software Updates

Updates to Do-more Designer include the programming software, the Firmware files, the Help System updates and the HTML / Documentation. By default, updates will be downloaded to the PC user account's TEMP folder, but the user can select a different folder.

After the updates are successfully downloaded they can be Installed - which requires the user to close all open Do-more Designer sessions.

Firmware Updates

Selecting to get updates for the Firmware files for the Do-more CPUs, Remote I/O controllers, and CTRIO modules will open the LiveUpdate utility which will download the firmware files into the folders where Do-more Designer's CPU firmware update process and the CTRIO module firmware update process is expecting to find them.

If there are multiple Firmware files available for download but not all of them are selected, this dialog will be displayed because LiveUpdate will download all of the available Firmware files regardless of the selections made.

Click the Go button on the LiveUpdate dialog and the firmware files will be downloaded.

Do-more Designer Help System Updates

Updates for the Do-more Designer Help System will be downloaded to the PC user account's TEMP folder. After the HTML / Documentation updates are successfully downloaded they can be Installed - which requires the user to close all open Do-more Designer sessions.

HTML / Documentation

Updates for the HTML / Documentation include the default contents for the Start Page. These updates will be downloaded to the computer's TEMP folder. Before the update can be downloaded, the user will be instructed to close all Do-more Designer sessions.

If there are updates for the Do-more Designer Software and the Help System and / or the HTML / Documentation and two or more of them are selected the following dialog is displayed. This is because the Do-more Designer Software updates already includes the Help System and HTML / Documentation updates and all three will be updated at the same time. Run Check for Updates again after only the Update to Do-more Designer Software is applied, then select any remaining Help System or HTML / Documentation updates.

After selecting the updates to download, click the Download Selected... button. The following dialog is displayed. Click the Start Download button to begin the download process. If Do-more Designer Software is selected a File Save dialog will open so the download folder can be selected. Browse to the desired folder and click Ok.

If Do-more Designer is running when the download process completes this dialog is displayed. All instances of Do-more Designer - including the Help System if it is open - must be closed before any of the updates can be downloaded. Close all open sessions and click OK to try again.

Click Start Download to begin the download process. Clicking STOP Download will abort the file download process. Click Start Download again to restart the download process.

After all of the updates are successfully downloaded, Click the Install button to apply the updates. Which components were selected will determine which type of install process is required.

Disable the Automatic Check for Updates

If it ever becomes necessary to disable the automatic Check for Updates that occurs at startup, open the View -> Options dialog, select the Global tab and uncheck the "Automatically Check for Updates on Startup" selection.
